Our Wedding

Today i’m sharing a little bit about our wedding and I am sitting here literally looking at our wedding photos for probably the 100th time because I just want to go back and replay the day all over again. We had such an amazing day with friends and family and the day came together even better than I could have imagined. This post is incredibly special to me and Andrew (aka now my HUSBAND) which still feels so crazy to say, but I love it! I’m feeling beyond lucky to be married to such an incredible man. We began planing our wedding back in November of 2016, which was basically a year ago from now just after we got engaged and now I can hardly believe it is all over. I also seriously underestimated the planning process of a wedding. Once we got home from our honeymoon that we left for the day after our wedding I felt like I was just in shock of not having anything wedding related on my to-do list which always felt like it was never ending, so I figured I would share a little bit about my learning process and how we planned our special day from the beginning to the end while sharing some of my favourite photos of our day!

A BIG thank you to Simply Rose Photography for taking all these beautiful photos of our wedding day! and our day of coordinator and planner Emily from Heartwood Weddings she was  a dream to work with and we couldn’t have done it without her!

Starting the day off

I stayed at a hotel the night before our wedding that was near our venue for convenience of getting to our location on time and also allowing max time for getting ready in the A.M (there was also a Starbucks in the lobby so that was also a big plus haha) the morning went SO fast and we had hair and make-up starting at 7:45am. I found being close to the venue to be extremely helpful and would highly recommend it if you are planning a wedding that isn’t as close to where you live, being only a 5-10min drive from the venue was key! it was also nice for after the wedding as well because it was only a short drive to our hotel that night. My bridesmaids all met me at my hotel the morning of as well and we all got ready here together which I would do over again because doing hair and make-up all together was so fun and not having to go any where was also great as we had hair and make-up come to us.

My dress I guess technically isn’t a dress because it was two separate pieces. It was a corset top that I wore tucked under the skirt of the dress. I found the two pieces to be extremely helpful for the fit of the dress as the top wasn’t getting pulled down by the weight of my skirt while wearing it. My dress is by the designer Watters and I am still SO in love with it and wish I could wear it all over again. The nice thing about having two separate pieces though is that I plan on wearing this corset top again but just pairing it with a different skirt to celebrate an anniversary or special occasion.

Trying on wedding dresses was so much fun but I found that so many dresses I tried on, I either loved the top or the bottom of a dress but the whole thing together was never perfect for me until I came across this one. If you are getting married and are having the same issue I would also recommend checking out BHLDN because they have some really gorgeous separates for brides as well.

Bridesmaid dresses are Show Me Your MuMu which were great because they were all able to choose a style that they loved, and I also loved show me your mumu because their styles were different from so many of the typical bridesmaid dresses that are out there.

These shoes were Amazing! I paired them with a gel insole for absolute comfort and I wore them all day and all night, and my feet only started getting sore at the very end of the evening. We also got married on the lawn and our cocktail hour and photos were all outside so it was super important that I found a block heel and these heels pulled together while still having the elegant touch I was looking for as I found so many block heels were too casual for my dress.

You can find these Badgley Mischka heels HERE and more HERE they have the most stunning shoes for brides!

I got all of my bridesmaids these pretty robes from Silk and More they were so nice to get ready in.. and drink a little champagne!

My bracelet and necklace are from Olive + Piper they have such pretty accessories for brides or bridesmaids and even everyday pieces.

For my local girls getting married Rebecca of Aisle Hair did an amazing job on my hair for the day. I would highly recommend her for you and your bridal party!

Our First Look

I know this isn’t the most traditional way of a wedding but having our first look before the ceremony was something that Andrew and I both loved. We were able to take the majority of our photos prior to having our ceremony while we were fresh from getting ready and also enjoy more of our time with guests following the ceremony instead of running away to take photos the entire time as a couple, after all you spend so much time planning this day, why waste it taking photos the entire time (atleast that was our thoughts) we just did family shots after the ceremony and then we were pretty much done and were able to sit back and enjoy the day!

I love this shot of my bridesmaid dresses, they all had unique backs that were so pretty!

I’m obsessed with fresh flowers, but what girl isn’t!? they were important to me on our wedding day and I was so happy with how they turned out, I picked my colours for them which were burgundy, blush and white. I love how the pop of burgundy looked with the touches of gold and we also got married in September so i think this colour scheme went perfectly with the fall colours and leaves as they started to change.

I think when picking your colour scheme and flowers it is important to think about the time of year and the feel of your venue and what look you are really going for so that it all ties together nicely.

I chose to keep our ceremony fairly simple but elegant, with fresh flowers and a touch of gold with our wedding arch and wine barrels. I just wanted to enhance the natural elegance of this beautiful spot on the lake.

Our wedding venue was a restaurant that backs onto the lake with gorgeous gardens and park surrounding it. It was also something I always envisioned for my wedding and always dreamed of having a tented wedding outside. We fell in love with it the moment we came to look at this venue. It was also so nice to have our ceremony and reception all in one place so there was no need for guests to scramble around trying to find two different locations.

These chairs that we rented really transformed the tent to an elegant setting for our reception and dinner.

for anyone local planning a wedding I highly recommend these ones from Vancouver Chiavari Chairs they were amazing and very organized with the whole process of booking.

I used simple glass tea lights on each table to go around the flower centrepieces, they are also a great price when compared to some of the other options out there, Find mine: HERE

They also came with 10hr. burning candles and they lasted the entire evening and still had more to burn if we wanted to use them again.

We did a sweet heart table on it’s own for the head table for Andrew and I to sit at and I had a hard time finding a rental for just this table because I wanted a matte sequin linen. I found mine here Sequin Table Linen

You can find Brass Candle Stick Holders: HERE

Matt Gold Sequin Table Linen: Sequin Table Linen

A great tip I learnt along the way to save money on your head table decor is to use your bridal and bridesmaid bouquets in vases. I literally went to the dollar store and purchased those glass looking empty vases shown in the picture and when it was time for reception no one wants to hold on to a bouquet anymore so I thought repurposing these flowers was the perfect idea and it looked great too!

And that’s a wrap on our wedding recap! I hope you enjoyed it!
